Iran, Germany sign cooperation agreement on transportation

The lifting of the international sanctions against Iran has opened up a lot of new potential business opportunities for foreign investors in Iran.

With entire sectors of the economy awaiting investment-led growth, the government of Iran has launched a number of investment promotion initiatives and is accelerating the issue of investment licenses.

German companies have signed a series of deals with Iran in order to boost economic ties between the two countries.

One new example of the Transportation sector is the signing of six cooperation agreements on transportation between the German Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, Alexander Dobrindt and the Iranian Transport Minister, Abbas Akhoundi.

According to Iran Daily:

Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi and Germany’s Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure Alexander Dobrindt on Sunday signed six MoUs on transport cooperation. During the visit of the German minister to Tehran, the two sides decided to further boost transport cooperation.

The Iranian minister announced that a German company has taken part in a tender for completing the two terminals in Chabahar Port, IRNA reported.

“We are now in talks with Germany’s Siemens for developing suburb transport in Tehran and Tabriz, as well as speeding up Tehran-Tabriz rail lines,” Akhoundi said, expressing hope that the negotiations would yield desirable results.

The German minister is in Iran at the head of a delegation of major shipping, port and marine companies.

Earlier this October, German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel visited Iran with representatives from 100 firms, including Siemens and Volkswagen.

During the two countries’ fifth Economic Commission meeting, 10 MoUs were signed between Iran’s minister of economic affairs and finance and Germany’s minister of economy and energy, covering a wide range of areas for cooperation including project financing, mutual investment, joint ventures, banking and insurance cooperation, infrastructure in oil, gas and petrochemical sectors, renewable energy, railway, environment, roads and urban development, automotive, airlines and technology transfer.

Since this summer, about 20 German delegations have visited Iran and ten more delegations will come to Iran in the next two months.
