Cyprus Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements follow the standards of OECD Model Convention, – with the exemption of the Cyprus-US Treaty which follows the most recent United States Agreements.
The main purpose of Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements – also called Tax Treaties – is the avoidance of double taxation of income earned in any of these countries. Under the treaties, a credit is usually allowed against the tax levied by the country the tax payer resides for the tax levied in the other treaty country and as a result of this the tax payers pays no more than the higher of the two rates.
Double Taxation Agreements play an important role in the determination of the place of taxation.
